Seasons of Love:
Give a Life Charity Foundation’s Great Moments for the year

Present Day Heroes

By Apocalypes P. Alsaybar

In 2008 up to these days, we have seen how the world has fallen apart with the crashed of the global economies and financial crisis hitting hard formidable countries such as the U.S., Japan, and England.  There are couples of natural disasters due to climate change brought by global warming that scarred many nations and the terror attacks shocked India, Thailand, Afghanistan, and underscoring in our own midst – the Philippines.

But in the middle of all of these, the world still has so many reasons to celebrate.  With the landslide victory of Barrack Obama, the whole world rejoiced as the first black President occupies one of the most powerful seats in the world. Indeed “Change has come to America” – and to the rest of the world. The economy starts to recover and the world economies though economies say that the end of the tunnel is not yet very near, but a glimmer of hope can still be seen.

Our country’s economy, despite the free fall suffered by others, remains resilient and even to the point that in spite of the depression affecting several nations, we Filipinos are still considered by worldwide survey as one of the happiest races on earth – with of course much and much more victories and accolades we should be proud of and heroes whose achievements worth remembering for.

There is Manny Pacquiao who is still the idol of boxing fans everywhere, and with good reason — from Juan Manuel Márquez to David Diaz and recently Oscar De La Hoya, he proved that like wine, his fighting skills only get better with age. And who would forget the household name Charice Pempengco who has captivated the whole world and again put the Filipinos in the forefront of the music industry when she belted out her powerful voice in Oprah Winfrey’s show and shared the stage singing in duet with Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.

Moreover, though they remained unnamed but they are all heroes all over the world – they are reason why our economy remains tough despite hard times because of the the foreign remittances infused by our hardworking Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Dubbed as the “BUHAY NA BAYANI” they are worthy of our respect and cheers.

They are all the present day heroes who have changed the definition of what a HERO is. They are not the heroes you see in books and whose names littered in the placards of the streets, rather they are living their lives as an inspiration to others.

Can you also be a real hero?  YOU are – if you make even the smallest effort to make a difference and serve others. A real hero is someone who has the best interest of OTHERS at heart before their own. Can you imagine if people would do that? What an impact it would have on our country!

You may not have some huge title or a role in our country, but you SURE can be like one of them and make a difference that is long lasting. People will surely remember you as a kind person. Show you respect for raising family ethics and morals. Give you love for showing your kindness to perfect strangers and helping others to overcome troubles in their lives.

Now will you chose service over yourself, think deeply? Are you willing to be a real hero? It is not difficult. The people, the institutions and the organizations you will about to see and meet have chosen the path of a hero.

In our journey as a foundation offering our hands to those ill and financially challenged Filipino children and their families and helping them to extend their life. We have met along the way several heroes who unconditionally chose to serve others through their financial resources, time and efforts. We appreciate them and they are our heroes, for they have showered blessings and inspired the children to live their life to the fullest.

Let us one by one remember their heroic deeds and like them, may you also be inspired and experience the joy of serving your countrymen. From the rest of the children and their families whose lives have changed and touched by all present day heroes – we from Give a Life Charity Foundation offer our sincerest and deepest gratitude.

Thank Very Much!
